Church Executive Leadership
Strategic Leadership and Planning
Why "strategic?"
Because tactical action with no strategic direction is wandering. Many churches are doing great work with their ministry programs but lack strategic direction. When strategic direction is clear, assets, efforts, and time are more appropriately stewarded for the advancement of His kingdom.
We work with church leaders who know why their church exists but lack a strategic vision for the direction God wants to take them. They are blessed with talent, resources, and hearts that want to see a world changed for Christ, but they lack the organizational focus, alignment, and strategy to truly unify their efforts in the same direction. They measure their ministry success by busy actions through established programs with no strategic movement forward.
"If you have a clear vision, you will eventually attract the right strategy. If you don't have a clear vision, no strategy will save you."
-Mike Hyatt
The American Church is too Comfortable
The American Church has grown comfortable, settling into familiar routines and leaning on past ministry wins to justify the status quo rather than pursuing a fresh, God-sized vision. Too often, we prioritize preserving the institution—our buildings, budgets, programs, and preferences—over positioning the Church to actively advance God’s Kingdom in our communities. Like the ten spies in Numbers 13, we assess reality through a limited human lens instead of God’s perspective, allowing fear and perceived constraints to shape our decisions rather than faith in His power to take us to a new reality in Him. While we genuinely care, believe, and hope, our faith frequently stops short of action. Scripture is clear that "faith without deeds is dead" (James 2:26), and that obedience requires movement—setting foot in the Jordan before the waters stop flowing (Joshua 3:8, 15).
Comfort has led us to wait for God to act before we step forward, while biblical faith calls us to move first, trusting that God will deliver on His promises as we obey.
We help church executive leadership see the strategic direction God wants to take them to advance His kingdom, set clearly defined strategic objectives, and then develop and execute a strategy to seize those objectives.
HOW WE SERVE YOUR CHURCH'S MISSION
We:
✅Diagnose what has you stuck, while God has called you to advance His kingdom.
✅Develop a strategic vision
✅Establish strategic lines of effort (LOEs) and clearly defined objectives to achieve the vision
✅Identify, examine, and bring awareness to the church's current positioning
✅Develop strategy through a deliberate planning process
✅Help the church leadership know how to identify, anticipate, prepare for, and respond to opposition that is sure to come
✅Develop the leadership capacity of leaders to shape their environment to achieve the vision and advance the Kingdom
From Comfortable Leadership to Courageous Kingdom Impact
Most churches are not failing—they are functioning. Busy calendars, faithful people, and steady giving can quietly mask a deeper issue: comfort has replaced conviction, and maintenance has displaced mission.
This program is designed for senior pastors and leadership boards who sense that God is calling their church to more—not more activity, but more faith, alignment, courage, and Kingdom impact.
We work directly with your executive leadership and board to bring clarity to God’s assignment, align decision-making around biblical conviction, and build a strategy that positions your church to advance the Kingdom with confidence rather than caution.
This is not about growth for growth’s sake. It is about stewarding God’s people, resources, and calling with excellence, faith, and obedience.
Diagnose Your Church Leadership
Lack Clarity
❌ “We’re active and well-intentioned, but we lack a clear, shared sense of where God is specifically leading our church.”
Misalignment Among Leadership
❌ “Misalignment slows decisions, creates tension, and quietly limits our impact.”
Risk-averse
❌ “We default to what feels safe rather than what requires faith, especially when finances and risk are involved.”
Lack a Strategic Vision
❌ “We’re consumed by services, staffing, and issues—leaving little time to think strategically.”
Zero Movement
❌ “We’ve plateaued and feel stuck in maintenance mode.”
Worldly Success
❌ “Success is quietly measured by attendance, budgets, and approval rather than obedience and faithfulness.”
Dull Iron
❌ “Our board tends to agree quickly to keep things comfortable, avoiding tension and hard questions that could sharpen us.”
Read the Word but Don't Live It
❌ “Our people are inspired on Sunday but not mobilized for Kingdom impact throughout the week.”
The Phase 0 Strategic Intensive
This is not a typical church consulting program. This engagement is designed for leadership teams who have grown weary of maintaining the status quo and are ready to abandon comfort in pursuit of a God-sized, Kingdom-advancing vision. If your leadership team is prepared to define objectives that appear impossible and lead your congregation to achieve them, then this intensive is the roadmap you have been seeking.
✅Alignment (1-hour call with pre-work)
-
The intensive begins with a leadership consultation designed to establish clarity and alignment. Church leaders complete the Church Kingdom Impact Diagnostic Tool and prepare spiritually through intentional prayer, fasting, and reflection with the 7-Day Vision Casting Prayer Journal. This phase ensures the leadership team enters the intensive unified and prepared to seek God’s direction together.
✅Engagement (Establishing the vision plus a 2-day planning intensive)
-
This is the core of the intensive. Together, we build a strategic framework for the future of the church. Leadership teams clarify a compelling 5-year vision, assess current realities, identify obstacles, and establish practical pathways for execution. The objective is to move from abstract vision to actionable strategy.
✅Post-Engagement (Formal plan due out plus a final 90-minute session)
-
Within two weeks of the intensive, the consultant provides a formalized strategic plan outlining the vision, priorities, objectives, and implementation framework developed during the engagement. The process concludes with a follow-up strategy session to ensure the leadership team is equipped to sustain momentum and execute effectively.
Expectations of the Client
Upon initial engagement with the client, if they have not already done so, we require that they complete the Church Kingdom Impact Diagnostic Tool.
We do not expect that the client has any formal strategic planning or leadership experience amongst its staff or leadership board. Where there is experience, we aim to compliment it and collaborate with it, not compete against it.
What we do expect is that the leadership of the church is corporately, urgently, and even unconventionally seeking God's direction through prayer and fasting. For this purpose, we recommend that our clients go through our 7-Day Vision Casting Prayer Journal with the team of leaders that will be establishing the vision.
We do not believe that seeking God's direction for the church, which He has entrusted our clients to shepherd, is our role. However, we will help them cast vision and set clear objectives in the direction they believe He is taking them.
We are willing to pray, and even fast, with our clients as they seek God's direction, but we will not dictate the direction. That is between God and the church leadership.
